12-8, 12-9 Weekend Recap

After a two game weekend, the Minnesota Blue Ox improved to 22-1-2 on the season and collected 3 points as well.

Overtime Scuffle:

The Minnesota Blue Ox faced off against the Wisconsin Muskies on Friday, December 8th. The Ox got off to a rough start as the Wisconsin Muskies started out the game with a 2-0 lead over the Ox. Not happy with their performance in the first, the Blue Ox came into the second period ready to roll and put up three goals on the board from Kristian Kause, Luca Perret, and Colton Ryan. These three goals would only tie up the game instead of giving the Ox the much wanted lead they were looking for. Rolling into the third period, the Blue Ox still seemed to be playing catch up as the Muskies opened with a goal of their own and Oskari Halme answered with a Blue Ox goal to once again tie up the game at 4’s. Following a scoreless three-on-three overtime period the two powerhouse teams headed into a shootout. The first three skaters up for both teams fell short and it was only when the Muskies put up their fourth skater that an overtime goal hit the back of the net. The Blue Ox ended the night with 36 shots on goal and one power play goal to go 21-1-2 on the year.

Fantastic Saves:

Saturday, December 9th the Minnesota Blue Ox faced off against the Steele County Blades for the final time of the season. The Blue Ox took an early 1-0 lead after an interference call was thrown against the Blades giving the Ox their first power play opportunity of the season. The early 1-0 lead came after Phil Schader netted his 14th goal of the season and Luca Perret extended that lead midway through the first with his second goal of the weekend. A late period power play for the Blades would allow them to shorten the lead to one goal, but the second period the Blue Ox gained that lead back yet again. The second period the Blue Ox put two more goals through the pipes with Tyrese Murph’s fourth goal of the season and Oskari Halme’s 21st goal of the season. The Blue Ox stopped the Blades 4-2 to get their 22nd “W” of the season. Brady Boudreau finished the night with a save percentage of .913 and blocked 21 shots on goal for the night.

The next Minnesota Blue Ox games will be this weekend Friday, December 15th and Saturday, December 16th against the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings beginning at 7 pm.
